Kimmie on the Prowl: Getting a Date Is Easy Math

Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of starting my statistics class.

About the same time the teacher sent the syllabus, I received an email entitled “Getting a date is easy math”. I laughed, but I was intrigued on their angle I opened it. I figured their angle would be something about algorithms but it was just another site offering a 50% discount. It still got me to wondering, which was going to be more painful for the next 10 weeks; statistics or dating?

On one hand, I’m not going to admit in my academic career, because I don’t enjoy math, that this is my third attempt at statistics. Nor will I admit, it’s actually my fourth attempt. All the formulas and reading already have me groaning. You can’t really bullshit answers in math because they are either right or wrong, not a lot of gray.

On the other hand I’m not going to admit how many guys I’ve dated and all the failed attempts in between. Back to the other hand, dating is like math because it is either is right or wrong only with too much gray. Now I’ve already confused myself which hand I’m on. Not really a great start.

The law of averages says, like I would know, but something along the lines of the more dates I go one the better odds I’ll have of meeting one of The Ones. The more men I meet, the more dates I am likely to get. The more social I am the more men I’ll meet. Not verbatim, but close.

So in order to meet more men, I had the pleasure of spending an evening out with one of twodaymag’s weekly contributors, Anya, and her fellow golfer, Ashley. I don’t go out often and even more rarely have a girls’ night. And what a night! This 30-year-old had a rough time hanging with these beautiful twenty-somethings. I had class earlier that evening so we didn’t get going until fairly late. I didn’t meet anyone I’d want to date, but a few who were mildly entertaining. Don’t get me wrong I love wobbly, thin redheads as much as the next gal but in the you-amuse-me-type way.

Always prowling to increase my averages I am very excited that I also started not one but two new jobs this week. It’s always fun meeting new coworkers and one is in a fairly large office downtown, so who knows?

I was definitely less excited when I saw what my homework was this week. One thing I do know, just have I have to keep trying in this dating world, I also have to do my homework. I have personally proven thrice over, if I don’t actually do my statistics homework, I’ll be rewriting this same article next semester.
