I was really disappointed but I missed speed dating this week.
I had back to back aerial workshops that day and knew I was cutting it close. When the second one started to run over, I knew there was no way I could make it even in the fashionably late sense. Fortunately, I have been more proactive in my dating pursuits, so I had another date lined up for the following day.
I came across this website where daters suggest dates they would be interested in going on and other daters can respond if they, too, are interested. As well as posting a couple of my own suggestions, I stumbled across a guy who posted, "How about we....meet my dog and I at the dog park?" Not very unique but then again most of the guys trying to post clever or funny dates didn't pull it off. For instance, "grabbing some booze and hitting a hot tub". If you have to post online to find someone to do that with, I don't want to see you what you look like in a hot tub. Another was "Feed swans stale bread". Why do you have stale bread? And anytime I think of feeding birds anything I immediately think of bird poop.
Lots of it.
Hitting me.
I like the idea of the dog park because already there is a shared interested. Due to the unruliness of my crew, I have recently been avoiding them. The more I thought about it, though, I realized it had been a long while and would probably be OK; granted I take only one dog. The obvious choice for that was my big beautiful great dane-boxer, Lolly.
She really is quite stunning and always sparks conversation as everyone wants to know her breed. The only issue I've had with her is that she is a large dog who when upset has a huge bark. Although she has never hurt a fly, the large, loud, barking dog can make some other dog owners uncomfortable. Murry is still a wild card; he's fine until another dog nips at him or looks at him the wrong way or has a toy he wants or... Having learned I cannot control other owners nor their dogs, I decided to take my chances with Lolly.
Meeting someone for the first time at a dog park required a bit of thought in to my attire. There is a lake, mud, lots of wet muddy dogs and it's hot, so add sweat to that list. Plus I don't have a lot of cute clothes that I mind getting covered in mud, dog hair and sweat. I have a special set of really not cute clothes for that. I decided during my morning run on an old yoga outfit and light make up.
That's a lie.
It's heavy make up meant to look like light make up, so I hoped desperately not to sweat it off.
We got there early because I wanted to tire Lolly out some. I was hoping to at least give the impression that I was the one in charge. We made our way around the large perimeter for the second time, as I kept one eye on the entrance and one on Lolly. Then I realized something. I had been stood up. Hmm. Really? I checked the time, hmm. That's new. I don't think I have ever been stood up before. Suddenly a line from a Friends episode flittered in my mind, "Do you think they saw you, turned around and left?"
No! They probably never came, right? Checking my watch once more I reconfirmed it was way past the set time. I sighed and said to Lolly, "Well, since we are here, why don't you find the hottest guy and go jump up on him?" She looked at me with her huge doe eyes panting heavily and sat. In the mud. Then she laid in it. Way to fetch the hottie, Lolly. I scouted around myself for a bit as I tried unsuccessfully to rinse off the mud before we headed home. So to sum up this week, that's two strikes; a new first and a car full of dried mud.
Looking forward to the upcoming week, I have been talking to a hottie I met online but I just found out he's in another country for a few more months. If the conversation continues however I am thinking of asking him for another new first; a Skype date.
