The Trend: Make A Buck Off of Your Old Threads

Every year we all go through the same thing, “I hate my clothes, I need new ones!”

There are a few solutions that can help spice up your wardrobe with out breaking the bank.  It will take some of your time, so if you want to keep your energy, then you are better off donating you old goods. (Keep in mind you can always receive tax write off for any donations you make).

Consignment shop is defined by Wikipedia as: “an American term for those second-hand shops that sell used goods for owners (consignors), typically at a lower cost than new. Not all second hand stores are consignment shops. In Consignment shops, it is usually understood that the consignee (the seller) pays the consignor (the person who owns the item) a portion of the proceeds from the sale. Payment is not made until and unless the item sells. The consignor retains title to the item and can end the arrangement at any time by requesting its return. A specified time is commonly arranged after which, if the item does not sell, the owner can reclaim it (or, if not reclaimed within a period, the seller can dispose of the item at his or her discretion).”

Consignment is a great way to get rid of your gently used clothing and make money at the same time.  There are two consignment shops in the Pittsburgh area that I highly recommend contacting if you are interested. They are both nonprofit, so it's great to know that you are supporting local causes in the area.

Designer Days Boutique: 5873 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Phone: 412-441-0330

The take consignments by appointment so feel free to call to find out the details about how their consignment works because each store is different.

Ambiance: 1039 South Braddock Ave Pittsburgh, PA 15218 Phone: 412.243.5523 or their other location: 428 Allegheny River Boulevard, Oakmont, PA 15139  Phone: 412.828.1946

If you are not interested in consignment and want to get rid of your clothes as fast as possible, then I suggest trying Avalon Exchange. They take clothing for trade or cash right on the spot.

Avalon Exchange: They are located in Squirrel Hill: 5858 Forbes Avenue, PGH, PA 15217, Phone: 412-421-2911, or their location in Mt. Lebanon: 680 Washington Rd. PGH, PA 15228, Phone: 412-343-2360

If you don't live in the Pittsburgh area, there are probably similar stores around your location, so I suggest searching online for "consignment shops" in your city to find out where to take your gently used clothes.

Whether you choose consignment or buy out, either way you are still making money back that you can use for some new funky, fun goodness!
