The Trend: How To Rock the Layered Look

Fall is Officially Here!

You know what that means? It's time to go through your wardrobe, put away your summer clothes and unpack your winter sweaters. Not so fast, though. This year is focused on layering and making use of everything in your wardrobe.

Instead of putting away those tanks or shorts, you can layer them with a long sleeve button down, or warm up your look with some fun colored leggings or tights. Check out some of these other items that are great for transitioning.

Scarves: They are a great way to keep you warm without having to wear a thick coat.  You can pair a scarf with almost any outfit, depending on how fancy you are dressed.  Scarves look great with all different colors and types of tops.

Vests: Short sleeved tops could still be worn if you have a vest on, as long as it’s not too cold .  You could pair the outfit with leggings or even with jeans, depending on how casual you want to look.

Leggings: As mentioned before, leggings are the easiest way to transition your outfit. Having some neutral colors are always good because then you have more options.  I suggest having black, dark brown, dark gray or olive green.  White, in my opinion, isn't very flattering.  Not to mention they get dirty super-fast and you don't want to waste your money on something you have to wash every time you wear it.

Moving on, any short sleeve dresses could be paired with a long sleeve underneath.  Dresses paired with opaque tights or leggings are a must to wear with dresses when the weather starts to change. You can still make the look fancier by adding sparkly or bold accessories. Top your outfit off with a chic blazer. You don't have to always wear an ugly winter coat to be warm!

Before it starts to snow, get the most out of your wardrobe by mixing and layering different pieces.  Cardigans: A great item to have. You can layer them over summer shirts with leggings or skirts with tights.  They keep you looking fresh and warm yet you don't have that heavy look as you would with coats or jeans.

Always keep in mind it is fashion forward to try new things and breaking a little outside the box isn't going to hurt!  You want to stay on trend with what's in season so some summer items aren't appropriate to wear in the fall.

For example, stay away from clothing that have bright floral patterns or that are made from a lightweight material best suited for warmer weather, such as linen or seersucker.  If you want a little updating for your wardrobe, you don't have to buy tons of stuff.  You can update your look with only a few new pieces.

I suggest always having a pair of flat knee-length boots. They are very comfortable and keep your feet warm. Cashmere sweaters are oh-so-soft and will keep you cozy and on trend at the same time.  Structured jackets can give an outfit that finished look, but make sure they are functional.

Lastly, cable knit and thick sweaters are easy to throw on for a comfy mood.  Finish it off with some boots, leggings, a belt and a scarf and you've got the layered look down to a “T”.
